Experimental Design (Public) The nationwide policy of taking online classes was announced on January 30, 2020. After the announcement, we contacted the local Bureau of Education in L County for the cooperation on the experiment, which was designed to investigate how the interaction between teachers and students influenced the learning outcomes in online education. Then,we conduct an 8-week randomized experiment for students during the school closure period. We randomly selected one class from each of the three grades in 5 schools to compose our treatment group. In total, we have 718 students from 15 classes, which account for one quarter of the whole sample. The remaining 2,319 students formed the control group. As for the treatment group, we sent the corresponding teachers a request about teaching a recitation session to the students through online Tencent Meeting. Every Friday after the regular learning time, the teachers and students would attend a 30-minute online recitation class, which was set up by our experimental team members.
