Abstract This study conducts the first investigation of how the teacher-student interaction in online education impacts the academic achievements and personality traits of primary school students using a field experiment. Our findings indicate that adding regular interactive online recitation sessions to pure online courses leads to significant improvements in students’ exam scores, as well as increased levels of extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness. The positive effects on students’ academic achievements and personality traits can be attributed to enhanced students’ learning motivation and engagement and increased levels of parental inputs on their children, respectively. Experimental Design (Public) We randomly selected one class from each of the three grade levels within each of the five schools to form our treatment group. In total, we selected 718 students from 15 classes, which accounted for one-quarter of the total sample. The remaining 2,319 students formed the control group. As for the treatment group, we sent the corresponding teachers a request about teaching a recitation session to the students through online Tencent Meeting. Every Friday after the regular learning time, the teachers and students would attend a 30-minute online recitation class, which was set up by our experimental team members.
