Abstract
We plan to administer a survey that elicits students' willingness to pay to learn their performance rank on a midterm. We plan to do this in a large microeconomics course. We then plan to randomly assign students to two conditions; one will receive access to a practice final exam and; another will receive access to the same exam but will be informed they will receive a message indicating where they ranked on the practice final.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
Students will be randomized into a treatment and control condition. The treatment group will receive access to a practice final exam. The treatment group will receive access to the same practice exam but will be informed that they will receive a message indicating where they ranked amongst all test takers.

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Whether students took the practice final exam.
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
We expect that students preferences for performance feedback (WTP) will mediate the likelihood of taking the practice final.

Secondary Outcomes

Secondary Outcomes (end points)
Student's WTP for performance feedback.
Secondary Outcomes (explanation)
Similar to our previous experiment, we expect there to be a large variance in students WTP.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
We first plan to survey students to elicit WTP for performance feedback information. Students will be randomized into a treatment and control condition. The treatment group will receive access to a practice final exam. The treatment group will receive access to the same practice exam but will be informed that they will receive a message indicating where they ranked amongst all test takers. We expect that those with a higher WTP will be more likely to take the practice final.
