Abstract
Air pollution exposure has been shown to have wide-ranging negative consequences, not just for individuals’ health and well-being, but also for their cognitive ability, productivity, and even stress and aggression. Our experiment will explore whether these effects extend to negatively impact participation, collaboration, and feedback in a workplace setting. To ensure obfuscation of the research design during implementation, further details are provided in the attached pre-analysis plan which will remain private until the field experiment is complete.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
This experiment exploits random assignment to a workplace setting with (treatment) or without (control) air purifiers. To ensure obfuscation of the research design during implementation, further details are provided in the attached pre-analysis plan which will remain private until the field experiment is complete.
Experimental Design Details
Randomization Method
Randomization is done in the office by a computer; randomization code is included in the attached pre-analysis plan
Randomization Unit
Room-days (e.g. Room A could be assigned to treatment on Day 1 and control on Day 2)
Was the treatment clustered?
Yes

Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
36 room-days
Sample size: planned number of observations
A conservative estimate is 335 observations.
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
18 control, 18 treatment
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
