Interventions

Intervention(s)
Three different formats of the BDM (Becker-DeGroot-Marschak) instructions will be used as an intervention.
Intervention Start Date
2023-08-15
Intervention End Date

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Primary outcome is the constructed variable, the endowment effect, the standard error of which will be used to assess the efficacy (suitability) of the instruction formats in eliciting the treatment effect as precisely as possible.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
The study has a 2 × 4 design, resulting in a total of 8 treatment groups. These groups consist of two conditions: one where participants are endowed with a digital coffee card, and the other where participants are not endowed with the item but receive money to buy it. Subsequently, subjects in each group will be exposed to one of the three different formats of instructions about how the BDM mechanism works (or one in the Descriptive format without a practice round).
Experimental Design Details
Randomization Method
Each individual subject will be randomly assigned to one of the treatment groups, and this assignment will be carried out using the randomizing method embedded in the Qualtrics survey.
Randomization Unit
Each individual subject will be randomly assigned to one of the treatment groups.
Was the treatment clustered?
No

Experiment Characteristics

N/A
Sample size: planned number of observations

Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
