Abstract
We conduct an online survey experiment. to investigate the effect of information provision on farmer's belief in income change when she converted to environmentally friendly farming. Our information treatment includes the income change of farmers who have already converted to environmentally friendly farming.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
We will provide information on the income change of farmers who have already converted to environmentally friendly farming to encourage farmer's to update their belief on income change when she converted.
Intervention Start Date
2024-02-09
Intervention End Date

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Farmers' subjective belief in income change (mean and variance)
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
Subjective probabilities in income change are asked in the survey and its mean and variances are estimated from the answer.

Secondary Outcomes

Secondary Outcomes (end points)
Farmers choice on environmentally friendly farming collected from a discrete choice experiment
Secondary Outcomes (explanation)

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
Japanese farmers are randomized into three groups. We randomize the treatments at the individual level.
The main outcome is subjective belief in income change when converted from conventional to environmentally friendly farming. We will ask the subjective belief before and after the treatment (pre-post design).
Experimental Design Details
The control group (C) receives a qualitative information of income change when she would convert to environmentally friendly farming.
The first treatment group (T1) receives the information of average income change of farmers who have already converted to environmentally friendly farming.
The second treatment group (T2) receives the information of distribution of income change (T2).
Randomization Method
Randomization done in office by a computer.
Randomization Unit
We randomize at the individual level.
Was the treatment clustered?
No
