Abstract
This research studies youths' aspirations, migration intentions, and policy preferences and how different pieces of information affect them in developing countries, specifically in Senegal. We will address this question through a survey experiment among last grade students in high schools in the region of Dakar. Through the survey, we will elicit students’ beliefs on their plans for future (including intention to migrate) and policy preferences. Students will receive either one out of two types of information (Treatment Groups 1 and 2) or no information (Control Group). Our sample will be approximately of 2000 high school students.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
We will administer the survey and randomaly provide information on labor market outcomes in the main destination countries and in the origin country.

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
-Willingness to migrate
-Actual migration
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
-Willingness to migrate: measured before and after the information treatment through a survey question
-Actual migration: measured around 6 months after the information treatment by re-contacting students either by telephone or by email

Secondary Outcomes

Secondary Outcomes (end points)
-Call/Visit to orientation agency
-Career choice (university vs. others)
Secondary Outcomes (explanation)
-Call/Visit to orientation agency: measured through the agency's registry
-Career choice (university vs. others): measured around 6 months after the information treatment by re-contacting students either by telephone or by email

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
Through the survey, we will elicit students’ beliefs on their plans for future (including intention to migrate) and policy preferences. After an information experiment, we will assess whether there were changes in their intention to migrate. Additionally, we will use one behavioural measure to assess the impact of information on students' visits to an orientation agency and we will measure actual migration status around six months after the intervention.
