Abstract
This is the pre-analysis plan for a survey experiment on the motivations to offer video consultations of German ambulatory care physicians. The experiment consists of three stages. 1) An information treatment that provides a nudge which is supposed to increase the rate of physicians that offer video consulations, 2) a vigniette experiment to determine the importance of different dimensions in the choice to offer video consultations and 3) a multi-armed-bandit study where invitation characteristics are varied to identify the best strategy for researchers
to survey physicians.

Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
No clusters.
Sample size: planned number of observations
A random sample of 25.000 physicians will be invited to take part in the survey (20.000 by email, 5.000 by letter). We expect a response rate of 25 percent.
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
Repondents are split 50/50 between treatment and control. Given our expected response rate this would be 3125 physicians in the treatment and 3125 physicians in the control group.
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
We expect the treatment to increase video consultation offerings by 5 percentage points more in the treatment group compared to the control group. This effect would need 432 observations per group for a power of 80% at a significance level of 5%.
