Abstract
The MozLand project is a large-scale governmental project that systematically registers individual and community land titles. Through a randomized controlled trial approach, we study the project impacts on female farmers’ investment decisions, productivity, income and empowerment. In addition, motivated by the identification of a large gap at baseline between the private support for women's land rights (WLR) and their perceived support at the community level, we implemented a low-cost information campaign to inform households about the actual levels of community support for WLR. This individual visit takes place prior to the land registration to a random half of sampled households living in communities receiving the Mozland project. This study will inform the design of future land regularization efforts but also inform on the effectiveness of a light-touch information intervention in correcting misconceptions and fostering behavioral change, namely, integrating the woman's name on the land titles.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
*Sampling procedure:* The sample comprises 2,240 households across 101 villages in the central Mozambican province of Manica (around 22 randomly sampled households in each village). The communities were identified through a community listing exercise in November 2020 in collaboration with the FNDS (Fundo National de Desenvolvimento Sustentável). These communities are located across the districts of Barue, Guro, Manica, Macate, Sussundenga, and Vanduzi. The listing ensured that the sampled communities would verify the elegibility criteria to receive the project Mozland, namely: i) be rural; ii) do not have a DELCOM or previous/pending systematic RDUAT registration efforts (based on latest information available); iii) be at least 2km from the closest sample community; iv) have at least 25 households; and v) be accessible during the rainy season. The strategy adopted to conduct this comprehensive community listing included using satellite imagery, ground-truthing visits, and official community lists provided by local authorities.

The land registration intervention implemented as part of the Mozland governmental project was randomized at the community level. From the 101 communities selected for the sample, 49 were randomly assigned to the control group, and 52 were randomly assigned to the treatment group.
The social norms information intervention was randomized at the household level within communities receiving Mozland. Half of the households (about 11 in each of the 52 Mozland communities) constituted the control group (no visit) and the other half, the information treatment group.
