Abstract
We conducted a laboratory experiment to study how deliberation affects interpersonal projection bias. Using a real-effort experiment, we demonstrated that people project their current tastes onto others when forecasting others' behavior, even when their tastes are exogenously manipulated and transparently different. The influence of deliberation on prediction depends on the state at the time of prediction. Additionally, deliberation from experience can be considered either noise or a help for rational prediction, warranting further study.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
This experiment examines the influence of deliberative thinking on interpersonal projection bias. The experiment consists of two separate, non-overlapping phases corresponding to distinct participant roles. In the first phase, participants, referred to as “workers,” completed an initial task requiring real effort and subsequently expressed their willingness to undertake additional work for extra compensation. In the second phase, participants, designated as “predictors,” performed initial tasks and then estimated the average willingness of the workers to continue working.
