Experimental Design
We will create a supplier-buyer matching service between agribusinesses. Interested participants will be asked to rate 10 profiles of hypothetical suppliers or buyers, depending on what they are interested in. We generate random profiles of hypothetical entrepreneurs by randomizing socio-demographic characteristics of the entrepreneurs (e.g., gender, marital status), firm characteristics (e.g., years in operation, revenues), and the type of contract they typically operate with (e.g., payment terms, and the use of written vs. verbal agreements ). Participants will be told that the resumes are hypothetical (thus avoiding deception), and that their rating will be used to select a real supplier/buyer that represents the best match for their business, which will incentivize them to disclose their real preferences. The best match will be generated using machine-learning algorithms.
