Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Willingness to pay to use the social signal, beliefs about bag, guesses about the signals seen and choices made by other participants, confidence in having made optimal choices in each treatment

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
One of two bags is randomly chosen. Each participant sees a signal that is (possibly) informative about which bag was chosen. Participants guess which bag was chosen. Participants given the chance to pay a fee to be able to use the first guess of another participant, with how the participant is chosen depending on the treatment. Strategy method used to elicit how participants would update their guess based on the social information.
Experimental Design Details
Not available
Randomization Method
By computer for signals and incentivization
Randomization Unit
individual level for signal, session level for bag.
Was the treatment clustered?
No

Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
10 sessions
Sample size: planned number of observations
Up to 304 participants, depending on funding and show up
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
Each session will have each participant play both treatment arms. Which treatment arm is used first will alternate by treatment to achieve balance.
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
