Abstract
This project investigates how perceptions of behavioral traits are gendered, focusing on traits such as negotiation aggression, risk-taking, and workplace competitiveness. Through an online experiment, we aim to determine if these traits are perceived differently based on gender. Participants are randomly assigned identical scenarios depicting either men or women behaving in a certain way in workplace interactions. Respondents then provide an assessment of how they rate behaviors as well as (incentivized) assessments of how they think others rate the same situation.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
We employ an across-subject design, where both treatment arms are shown the same online survey with varying illustrations and pronouns in the examples they are asked to assess.

The control group sees the survey entirely with male-typical illustrations and pronouns in the examples. The treatment group sees it entirely with female-typical illustrations and pronouns.

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
1) Perception of each depicted situation on a continuous scale, aggregated into a z-score.
2) Expected mean assessment of others' responses in the same treatment arm.
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
The endpoints of each scale are defined as in Sarah Cooper's book. We label these as "Risk," "Negotiation," "Social," and "Competitive".

Secondary Outcomes
