Abstract
This paper addresses the non-competitive nature of the savings products market and the potential farmers' limited attention. Specifically, it aims to evaluate the impact of alternative savings accounts in the dairy sector in Kenya on farmer sales decisions, farmer savings, and other downstream outcomes (e.g., agricultural investment and school outcomes). It also assesses whether labelling, as an approach to mitigating potential limited attention, has additional effects on these outcomes.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
Farmers will be divided into the following groups:

C (business as usual): Farmers are offered a free savings account
T1: This account is the same as C, but with a soft commitment that they cannot access their savings until the end of each month, except in emergencies such as illness.
T2 (Labelling): This account is the same as C, but labelled as lump-sum savings for farming investment and school fees.

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Farmer milk delivery, farmer savings, farming outcomes, and school outcomes

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
We designed our experiment in collaboration with a dairy cooperative in Kenya that collects milk from around 2,000 active member farmers. The experiment is also informed by a quasi-experimental analysis showing that labelling financial services can be effective for take-up and milk delivery in this context.
