Abstract
To our knowledge, there is no study examining the relationship between decision making on behalf of others and the source of the income. For this reason, we will in our thesis examine whether the degree of risk taking on behalf of others depends on the source of the income. The results of this research will contribute to the understanding of how people make risky decisions on behalf of others, which in particular could be interesting for explaining decisions made by - for example - hedge fund managers.

Primary Outcomes
Primary Outcomes (end points)
Investment level on behalf of others
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
- The amount the participant invested for oneself.
- A dummy variable that equals to 1 if the participant had to work for the endowment, 0 otherwise.
- Two vectors controlling for background information of the participants, whereas the explanatory variables are age, gender, years of education and participation in prior experiments.
- The participant’s belief of participant how much the other participants invested for themselves on average.
- The participant’s anxiety to lose the other persons money, measured by a scale.

Experimental Design
Experimental Design
The experiment consists of two treatments. While the second part of the experiment (measurement of risk preferences) is identical for both treatments, the source of the income varies between the treatments. Participants in the second treatment need to complete a real effort task to earn the 100kr which they can then invest in the second stage. In contrast, the first treatment starts with the second stage and the endowment money is given to the subjects without any conditions.
Experimental Design Details
Randomization Method
The participants draw a numbered ball from a non-transparent bag which then indicates their seat number and which treatment they are in.
