Abstract
This study evaluates different ways to help young people find work in southern Egypt. We partnered with local NGOs and tested three types of support: classroom vocational training, vocational training plus on-the-job training, and vocational training plus on-the-job training and counseling. Eligible applicants were randomly assigned to one of these three programs or to a comparison group that did not receive support. We collected baseline information at application and then followed participants over time to track their employment experiences, income, and related outcomes. The goal of the study is to understand how program design can improve employment support and inform policy decisions about how to structure active labor market programs.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
Individual-level randomized controlled trial among eligible applicants to NGO job-support programs in four governorates of southern Egypt. Applicants were randomized within cohort and stratified by gender into 4 arms: Vocational Training only (VT), VT+On the Job Training (OTJ), VT+OTJ+Counseling, or control. Baseline survey at application, short-run follow-up about 16 months after training completion, and long-run follow-up about 4 years after intervention.
