Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
n/a
Sample size: planned number of observations
We aim for 2,000 high-quality observations. The study may have fewer if the volatile cross-strait political situation undermines the ability to collect high-quality data or if the research team is unable to recruit 2,000 respondents. The study may also extend data collection if world events create a valuable opportunity to study issues outside the original plan.
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
We aim for approximately 333 observations for each of the cross-randomized groups (e.g., econ high x military activity) in the Experimental Design module. Final cell sizes may vary because of recruitment, survey completion, and data-quality constraints.
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
Under a two-sided t test with significance level 0.05 and the assumptions shown in the power analysis graph, estimated power rises with the total sample size and reaches approximately 0.95 at N = 2,000.
