Intervention (Public)
|
Before
In an online survey with approximately 2,000 respondents, we randomly assign participants to watch one of two short videos before completing incentivised economic tasks. A treatment video primes national identity while a control video covers a neutral topic. After the video, respondents complete three tasks.

Experimental Design (Public)
|
Before
This is an online survey of approximately 2,000 respondents in Ukraine, stratified into six cells. Within the survey, each respondent is individually randomised into one of two video groups. After watching the video, all respondents answer identity questions and complete three incentivised economic tasks. Full details of the estimation strategy are set out in the pre-analysis plan.

Identity or identity-based discrimination can influence individual performance (Farzana et al., 2015), job search behavior, networking choices (Isphording, 2015) and labor market outcomes (Bertrand et al., 2015; Oh, 2023). However, there is still limited evidence on how identity shifts during or after large-scale conflict impact labor market outcomes. This project aims to address this gap by analyzing the impact of the war in Ukraine on social identity, and the corresponding impacts on attitudes towards redistribution and economic trust
We will conduct a survey-based experiment, where ~2,000 respondents will be randomly assigned to watch one of two short videos through the survey. The treatment video is designed to make Ukrainian national identity more salient, while the control video covers an unrelated topic. All respondents then complete identity questions and three incentivised economic tasks. See attached pre-analysis plan for full details.
