Abstract
We study how behavioral biases affect risk taking in sportsbetting using online incentivized experiments in Finland.

We do not reveal our research question publicly to preserve the integrity of the trial. See the pre-analysis plan for details.

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Demand for risky products: budget allocated to stakes.
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
In the first section of the experiment the subjects will make betting choices, allocating a budget in each screen.
They can choose to put a stake or keep the money. One screen is randomly selected for payment.

Secondary Outcomes

Secondary Outcomes (end points)
Secondary Outcomes (explanation)

Randomization Method
Randomization done in office by a computer
Randomization Unit

Was the treatment clustered?
No

Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
Treatment is randomized at the individual participant level. Participants are randomly assigned to one of the treatment arms upon registration for the online experiment. Treatment assignment is independent across participants.
Sample size: planned number of observations
144 people - first wave
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
24 individuals per treatment arm.
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
