Before
The primary outcome (dependent variable in our regressions) for Hypotheses H1-H4 is the probability with which efficient task divisions are chosen, depending on gender stereotypes and treatments. The primary outcome for H5 is the accuracy of the estimation of the partner’s performance.

After
The primary outcome (dependent variable in our regressions) for Hypotheses H1-H4 is the probability with which efficient task divisions are chosen, depending on gender stereotypes and treatments. Furthermore, we analyze whether stereotype-related patterns in actual choices are reflected in elicited performance beliefs, and whether they remain after accounting for these beliefs. First, we repeat the analyses corresponding to H1-H4 where the primary outcome is now the probability that the allocation that is efficient according to the participant’s beliefs coincides with the objectively efficient allocation. To consider whether the bias extends beyond beliefs, the primary outcome is the probability that the actual choice coincides with the choice that is optimal based on elicited beliefs. Because beliefs are elicited after the allocation decision, these mechanism analyses do not directly identify the beliefs that causally generated the preceding choice. They are therefore interpreted as suggestive evidence on the role of performance beliefs and on stereotype-consistent behavior conditional on those beliefs. The primary outcome for H5 is the accuracy of the estimation of the partner’s performance.
