Experimental Design

Experimental Design
We conduct a conjoint experiment to elicit household preferences regarding inflation and unemployment. Respondents choose between two hypothetical economies, which are characterized by randomized levels of inflation and unemployment rates.

Randomization Method
Randomization is conducted by a third-party survey provider using a computer-generated algorithm integrated into their online platform.

Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
0
Sample size: planned number of observations
1000 individuals
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
Single arm: all 1,000 respondents complete the same conjoint instrument with randomized attribute levels (1,000 respondents × 10 tasks × 2 profiles = 20,000 profile evaluations).
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
The design (1,000 respondents × 10 tasks × 2 profiles = 20,000 profile evaluations) allows detection of an AMCE of approximately 2–3 percentage points (α = 0.05, power = 0.80, standard errors clustered by respondent).
