We randomly vary whether the respondents in our survey answer Covid-19 related questions (Covid-19 prime) before answering our target questions (attitudes towards the European Union and its intervention in domestic economies, social and political attitudes, etc. See attachments for details).
Experimental Design Details
Randomization Method
Electronic on survey engine.
Randomization Unit
individual.
Was the treatment clustered?
No

Experiment Characteristics

Sample size: planned number of clusters
8000 (2000 per country)
Sample size: planned number of observations
8000 (2000 per country)
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms
4000 per treatment; 1333 per sub-treatment: [health, economic, conflict rethoric] X [covid prime]. See attachment for details.
Minimum detectable effect size for main outcomes (accounting for sample design and clustering)
MDE=0.12 at alpha=0.05 and power=0.8 on standardised outcome measures in within country analyses.
