Randomization Method Eight versions of the experimental treatments are implemented at the session level with computer software. These include four experimental conditions and A and B versions to balance the secondary outcomes (competition and cooperation) for potential ordering effects. The cognitive bias items are randomized with the constraint that no item may appear next to one another. The economic games for cooperation and competition are balanced with two versions in each experimental condition (A: Compeition before Cooperation; B: Cooperation before Competition) to control for potential ordering effects. Eight versions of the experimental treatments are implemented at the session level with computer software.
Sample size (or number of clusters) by treatment arms Teams are treated as a single decision unit in our study. Individuals are a single decision unit. Condition 1 (84 students): Individuals, no incentives Condition 2 (84 students): Individuals, $1.00 USD incentive per item (out of 24) Condition 3 (166 students; 83 groups): Teams, no incentive Condition 4 (166 students; 83 groups): Teams, $1.00 USD incentive per item (out of 24) Teams are treated as a single decision unit in our study. Individuals are a single decision unit. Condition 1 (84 students) Condition 2 (84 students) Condition 3 (166 students; 83 groups) Condition 4 (166 students; 83 groups)
