To study the immediate effect of exposure to social media content, I will recruit 1000 participants from Amazon Mechanical Turk to perform a classification task. Participants are shown a list of tweets to classify whether it is race-related and its intent. The exposure to the list to classify is randomized: participants in Control see a list of randomly selected tweets, while participants in Treatment see a list that includes race-related tweets from top civil rights accounts. After the task, I elicit beliefs and attitudes towards race-related issues and racial minorities. I then look at the effect of exposure by content type and intensity.
