Abstract
The experiment will elicit public preferences for peace deals among the Israeli and Palestinian public. The preferences that are elicited will allow us to identify which attributes are most important to each side, the relative importance of these attributes in terms of strength of preference or support in a referendum. By undertaking the experiment among a representative sample of Israelis and Palestinians, we can identify the types of peace deals that are mutually agreeable (preferred to or would receive more votes in a referendum) compared to the status quo of no deal.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
There is no intervention. We run a survey of political opinions using a conjoint analysis framing.
Intervention Start Date

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Individual rankings of peace deals.
Primary Outcomes (explanation)
We estimate the utility of the ranking of deals using the participants’ choices framed in a random-utility model.
Quantitative measurement of expectations (scales of percentage points) under hypothetical scenarios.

Secondary Outcomes

Secondary Outcomes (end points)
We will identify bargaining solutions.
Secondary Outcomes (explanation)
Bargaining solutions: using the microeconomic theory of bargaining we will identify bargaining solutions.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
Conjoint analysis, contingent ranking. Fractional-factorial block design, resolution IV (main effects), based on 8 binary attributes.
Experimental Design Details
Conjoint analysis, contingent ranking. Fractional-factorial block design, resolution V (main effects), based on 8 binary attributes.
Randomization Method
Subjects are randomly assigned to 1 of the blocks from the block design.
Randomization Unit
Individual level randomisation.
Was the treatment clustered?
No
