Abstract
By conducting a lab experiment, I want to examine gender effects in leadership. Participants will be presented with real effort tasks and randomly assigned into groups. Group members and leaders will need to make decisions with different information provided by the experimenter.

Primary Outcomes

Primary Outcomes (end points)
Leaders should prefer to gender congruent group members when deciding who is going to answer for the group. Group members will be more willing to contribute when they have gender congruent leaders.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
Participants will be assigned into groups with decision-making tasks in the lab. This experiment aims at investigating gender effects in leadership.
Experimental Design Details
There are three parts to the experiment. The first part contains two tasks. The first task of part one is to answer questions individually
in 6 categories, with 5 questions in each category. This aims at estimating individual abilities in different categories. The second task of part one asks participants to present their confidence for their answers for the first task for each question. The first task and the second task will
be displayed to participants simultaneously, which means participants will need to answer questions and state their confidence in their answers at the same time. In part two, we will rank participants by their correct answers. The best one-third of participants will be selected as leaders. Participants will be randomly assigned into groups of three. In each group, there are two group members and one leader. The selection rule of leaders will be common knowledge. Then group members will be asked to answer new questions in 6 categories, 5 questions in each category. Meanwhile, they are asked to submit their willingness to answer for their groups in each question. After group members submit their answers and willingness to represent their groups, leaders will need to decide who is going to represent their groups
in each question. In the last part, there are two tasks for participants. All participants are asked to guess their group performance then finish a risk elicitation task. In the end, we will run a demographic survey and a psychological survey for personal traits.
