Abstract
This project examines the impact of transfer withdrawal rates in the German Citizens’ Basic Income system on the decision of benefit recipients to take up a job in the formal or informal sector. Methodologically, the project makes use of a conjoint experiment combined with a between-subjects treatment design in which we vary institutional details, conducted in the context of an online survey.

Interventions

Intervention(s)
We implement a conjoint experiment in combination with a treatment design within an online survey of recipients of Citizens' Basic Income in Germany. Respondents are randomly allocated into four groups which face different (hypothetical) transfer withdrawal rates in the conjoint experiment.
In the main part of the experiment, respondents are shown six (hypothetical) job offers in random order. The job offers differ in the following attributes: working time per week, type of job (registered or not registered at the job center), distance to place of work, required professional skills, monthly net wage. For each job offer, respondents are asked how likely it is that they would accept the job offer.
