As part of conducting the National Public Survey in 2007, the Institutional Reform and Capacity Building Project ran an intervention to improve knowledge in local government and participation by handing out radios.

Experimental Design

Experimental Design
Enumerated Areas were chosen based on whether they had less than 65% radio penetration. The randomization was then done on the locality level of Enumerated Areas, where half received gifts while the other half serve as controls. The gifts given were either a radio or poster. Within treatment Enumerated Areas, every other sampled household was offered a cheap wind-up radio while the others was offered a poster.
